As a co-founder of BEST Human Capital and Advisory Group, Todd Downing has over 30 years of experience handling human capital needs throughout the horticultural, agricultural, and consumer products industries. Todd's industry knowledge and approach provide client companies with a consultative partner who proactively aligns hiring strategies and human resource initiatives that impact the completion of strategic goals with a positive ROI.

With a desire to provide a more comprehensive service to clients, Todd formed BEST. Todd leads a team of service-driven individuals. With his focus on aligning the human resource and hiring practices and their financial impact, Todd has become a trusted partner, advising and assisting companies with evaluating, developing and executing strategic hiring plans through behavioral-based assessments, benchmarking, building and reorganizing corporate teams, and retention.

He started his career at an early age with The Andersons in Maumee, Ohio, and then moved to a well-respected national lawn and garden (L&G) manufacturer representative firm, Total Marketing Associates of Chicago, Illinois. At Total Marketing, Todd spent 18 years as a National Sales Manager for key accounts, including Do it Best Corp., The Andersons, Cisco, and Kroger. Also, Todd developed a niche platform before the last economic downturn, focused on recruiting talented professionals who drive the various facets of Restructuring & Turnaround engagements both in and out of court. To this day, he continues to partner with these leading advisory firms in identifying the unique and high-level talent required to successfully turn around distressed companies.

Todd has recently served as an advisor to the following entities: a startup organic fertilizer company's talent acquisition and organizational chart development; the Board of Directors of an L&G chemical and fertilizer manufacturer in the successful full circle recruiting process of a CEO /President; one of the world’s largest substrate providers’ restructuring of their organizational chart, developing behavior-based hiring standards and assessments, implementing consistent onboard plans, managing talent acquisition, and hiring efforts globally and successfully increasing retention rates; a leading national horticultural industry distributor in both succession plan recruiting of a divisional leadership role and in the top grading of sales/marketing leadership roles; a dominant live good grower to the mass merchant channels top-grade leadership positions in both the propagation management and business development leadership; and a leading restructuring and turnaround firm in the succession planning of ownership and full-cycle hiring of managing directors who lead the firm and client engagements to junior professionals who are critical in executing the turnarounds of distressed companies.
